Beginning September 14, 2019, PSD2 regulation will require Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) for many online payments made by European customers, to help reduce fraud. To ensure payments will not be declined, businesses will need to build an extra layer of authentication into online card payments.
While some low-risk transactions (based on the volume of fraud rates associated with the payment provider or bank) will not require authentication, banks can choose to not honor these exemptions and request that the customer complete authentication.
As we head closer to that deadline we thought we would give you a heads up that so far we have only had reassurance from Stripe that they have updated their processes and support this change, so we are unable to guarantee that other payment gateways we support will be trouble free due to the lack of transparency from the merchant as to when they'll support the new legislation.
We would advise contacting your current Payment Gateway or switching over to Stripe to guarantee your payments are taken and they are protected.
